Ryobi adapter to take dewalt batteries4/19/2024 ![]() ![]() Certainly some groups are owned/produced together (especially store brands), but some tool companies are owned by the same Corp but are completely independent entities, and there are still a few lone wolves out there as well as some family owned tool makers. ![]() Also, don’t fall for the “every tool company is owned by the same people and it’s all the same inside” bs. ![]() Most common failure was the chuck, which was due to misuse, and cracking the case after falling 3 stories (a fall others had survived btw), the batteries NEVER failed.Īll that aside, I do prescribe to the buy cheap first rule (unless you’re a tradie whose livelihood depends on said tool, in which case get your shit together, do some research and fork out the $$ for quality shit), that is buy the cheap/store brand and use it to start, if you use it enough to break it, then it’s worth going a level up, if you don’t then the cheap shit was good enough, or you don’t use it enough to matter, and you saved some money. Ryobi drills would last about a day, the Milwaukee’s lasted years. They also survived falls from ladders and scaffolding, being left out in subzero temps regularly, rain, snow, dirt and dust, and just generally getting the shit beat out of them. When I was a full time contractor I had 3-5 Milwaukee’s in rotation at any one time, that clocked a couple hours run time/day. What do you use them for? I don’t have anything against Ryobi per se, I’m just realistic about what they are, an entry level store brand tool that is sufficient for occasional household/hobby use, but not durable or strong enough for professional use. If I start with a higher-end brand's battery packs, I can start including their tools in my arsenal without having to buy multiple battery packs.ĮDIT: Thanks for the feedback about other brands not having protected packs, or rather, the protection they have is the last ditch "never allow charging again" type.A community to share tips and tricks that will help yourself improve on activities, skills and various other tasks. Better compatibility - it's hard to create an adapter for a ryobi pack -> dewalt tool due to the old fashioned post design. So - question: Does anyone else run other brand batteries with an adapter? Any cons to doing that, apart from the annoyance factor of an adapter? To top it off, it looks like they've started to switch to cheaper cells within the same SKU (Japanese vs Chinese brands). I've been looking at the specs of the Ryobi batteries, and getting thoroughly confused by how many similar but different SKUs Ryobi manages to create. ![]()
